Join us as we chat about a bunch of little pieces of useless (and yet fascinating) information that Sandy has gleaned from her new favourite podcast, Hypochondriactor. We also discuss the face that the way we live our lives (our eating habits, our activity habits, our sleep habits, and our stress-reduction habits) impacts all of our bodies’ systems. Finally, we take a deep dive into the world of intermittent fasting through a discussion of Gin Stephens’ recent book, Fast Feast Repeat. What is it? What is it not? Is it truly a “health plan with the side effect of weight loss” as she advertises? Should we do it? If you are an “IFer”, let us know your thoughts!

Join us as we chat about some history with WW like the very first WW workshop Sandy ever coached in Toronto, Henny’s main concern when she was first hired by WW, and the fact that Heinz (yes, the company known for its ketchup) used to own 100% of WW years ago! We discuss a few more fun facts from Michael Moss’ latest book as Henny has finally finished it. Finally, Sandy has a new podcast she’s started listening to a little more regularly because she’s actually looking to get a little more . . . well . . . regular.

Join us as we chat about the addictive nature of certain types of food and debate whether or not it’s fair to use the word “addiction” to describe the nature of our relationships with food. Using Michael Moss’s recent book (Hooked: Food, Free Will, and How the Food Giants Exploit Our Addictions) as a guide, we discuss our most vivid memories of food and our keen desire for variety when we’re eating. Finally, we talk about distracted eating . . . does anyone actually eat without distractions of any kind? Henny needs to know. If you’re a person who eats without distractions, tell her how you do it!

Join us as we chat about Henny’s long-time obsession with Friends (the show, not the people . . . just kidding . . . or is she?). We spend some time chatting about self-compassion and the fact that it is a skill that needs to be worked on continually. We also discuss another podcast that we’ve been enjoying called “On My Mind” with Megan Telpner. We learn about the Barrel Effect . . . a perfect analogy for what it feels like when we’re so filled with stress that just one more drop will make us simply overflow! Finally, we chuckle about some of our favourite images and memes on social media. Do you have any favourite funnies?

Join us as we chat about the etiquette surrounding paying others compliments. When is it okay (if ever) to compliment someone on their physical appearance? When is it okay (if ever) to compliment someone for a weight-related change? When is it okay (if ever) to compliment someone on what they’re wearing? Our answer: it depends. We also discuss the idea of building meals that are nutrient-dense to fill and fuel our bodies well. Is it possible to eat a nutrient-dense meal that doesn’t include chicken or eggs? Our answer: of course! And finally, Sandy is waiting with bated breath for Henny to make an infused oil. Should she do it? Our answer: no comment.

Join us as we chat about a bunch of different shows, podcasts, and books we’ve been consuming lately. We discuss what it might mean when people who are important to us forget important days (Have you ever had your birthday forgotten?) and whether or not we should care. At least Baskin Robbins didn’t forget Sandy’s birthday, and that Praline’s and Cream did not disappoint. Finally, Henny explains researcher Angela Duckworth’s concept of “Grit” and how it can apply to all areas of life - including weight loss and healthy living. Give us a listen this week to learn a bit more about how you can use your passion and perseverance to help you live your healthiest life!

Join us as we chat about strategies for small talk and the importance of setting and keeping boundaries. Henny is struggling with engaging in natural and easy small talk, and unfortunately Sandy isn’t really able to help her out too much. Turns out, neither one of us are particularly gifted when it comes to small talk. We turn our discussion to Henny’s latest read, Set Boundaries, Find Peace by Nedra Glover Tawwab, and there’s lots to say about finding work-life balance, finding time to spend doing what we love, and finding ways to keep relationships healthy and well. Finally, we muse a bit about the relationships between health and weight. Weight is by no means the only measure of health, but is it a measure of health at all?

Join us as we chat about the fact that sometimes you need someone else to check up on you to make sure you’re getting your to-do list done. (Also, Sandy seems to think that Henny is willing to be that person for everyone.) Henny is totally geeking out about some reading she’s doing (what else is new?), and we discuss how our brains work both for and against us in different situations. Finally, we get serious and talk about ice cream flavours. What’s your favourite?

Join us as we chat about some cool things we’ve learned this week about how our brains use up energy when we are thinking lots, strategizing, and stressing over things too. We also discuss some of the sequences of micro-habits we follow on a regular basis like how we fill our time while we’re waiting for the water to boil or the pathway we follow in the grocery store. Finally, Sandy’s been a student of the Armchair Expert, and she’s got some neat ideas to share with us all. What podcasts do you listen to if you want to learn something cool? You know, besides this one (*wink, wink*).

Join us as we chat about anti-fat bias in our society and how this implicit bias permeates our thoughts and many of our actions. Henny has a lot to say about the book she’s reading, What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Fat, and it ties quite nicely into some of the learning we’ve both been doing about health, functional nutrition, and the addictive nature of the food industry. We also discuss our experiences with WW, a company that exists within diet culture. Finally, Sandy is trying to convince Henny to make some infused oils. Think she’ll be able to convince her?
